From Sample to Production: How Great Garments Get Made

Every successful production run starts long before the cutting table. The development phase — sampling, fit approvals, fabric development — is where a garment either becomes exactly what the brand envisioned or quietly drifts into compromise.

Sampling is a conversation, not a formality. First samples test the pattern; fit samples test the body; pre-production samples test the factory's ability to repeat the approved garment at scale. Skipping rounds saves weeks on paper and costs months in reality.

Fabric development runs in parallel. Whether we are knitting a custom Pima jersey or matching a specific French Terry hand feel, the fabric has to be locked — weight, shrinkage, colorfastness — before bulk cutting begins. Garment construction decisions follow: stitch types, seam finishes, reinforcement points that determine how the garment wears after fifty washes.

Our process is built around this discipline because we have seen what happens without it. Premium manufacturing is mostly the art of not being surprised — and that art is practiced in development.
